Rights group condemns US terrorist airstrike on migrant center in Yemen

The Euro-Mediterranean Human Rights Monitor has denounced the US airstrike on a Yemeni migrant detention center, citing severe human losses and a potential breach of international law.

AhlulBayt News Agency: The Euro-Mediterranean Human Rights Monitor has condemned the US military’s airstrike on a migrant detention center in Yemen, calling it a dangerous escalation and a clear violation of international law, potentially amounting to a war crime under the Rome Statute of the International Criminal Court.

The UN has urged the establishment of an independent commission to investigate the attack, proposing a mandate for documenting violations, conducting field inquiries, and determining legal responsibilities at both individual and collective levels.

The Monitor stressed that the horrific human losses demand immediate activation of global accountability mechanisms, including judicial proceedings based on universal jurisdiction. It highlighted the importance of ensuring justice and preventing impunity for those responsible for the incident.

An analysis of video evidence by the Monitor revealed that the facility, built with cement walls and a tin roof, was almost entirely destroyed in the attack. Questions remain about the absence of documented measures taken by the US military to reduce civilian casualties, raising concerns about a serious breach of international humanitarian law.

This failure undermines key principles such as differentiating civilian and military targets, proportionality, and precautions necessary to minimize harm to non-combatants, further intensifying suspicions about the legality of the strike.
